This week's episode of Stay Tuned features guitarist-composer-vocalist-improviser Bill MacKay covering the theme song to the 70's detective drama tv show The Rockford Files.

"I greatly enjoyed The Rockford Files TV show as a youngster. I often watched it with my family. James Garner played detective Jim Rockford, a quirky and warm investigator, and certainly not a one-dimensional macho person. He seemed to understand people. Rockford moved around town in his car, solving crimes with a mix of smarts and instinct. The theme song by Mike Post and Pete Carpenter was very catchy and interesting. Like the themes of many 70s shows, it had some funk, a great melody and a good dash of flashy guitar. It projected a positive vibe about confronting challenges. I’d thought before about covering it somehow, so I was psyched to have this opportunity." - Bill MacKay

Bill MacKay was born in Tarrytown, New York, and grew up in Rochester, New York and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Berklee College of Music and holds a master’s degree in Spanish language and literature from Roosevelt University. He is a musician, composer, writer, visual artist and polyglot. He has released the albums Esker, SpiderBeetleBee, Fountain Fire, STIR, Keys, and Scarf on the label Drag City. He lives in Chicago, Illinois.
