about
“Sometimes I can pair the the year I first heard a song with the type of baseball card I was collecting at the time. Kenny Rogers “Lucille” was definitely 1987 Topps, which makes me 12 years old. It was this song along with Jim Croce’s “Bad Bad Leroy Brown” and maybe Billy Joel's “Goodnight Saigon” that I realized that song writing could be straight up story telling. Previously it was all abstract units of sound that I could sorta sing along too - Steve miller’s “Abracadabra” & Eurythmics “here comes the rain again” (1986 topps). These story telling types of songs broadened my experience with music and drew me in as a listener." - Graves
