on blue evenings in summer   wild cats calling to me   up to the whispering hills   trampling through oat grass dreams    I’ll feel the coolness under my feet   bathe my bare head with the breeze   clearing out all my thoughts I won’t speak   far far yea I’m traveling   love in my soul   natures vagabond  on gray misty morning   wild call of the running tide   through the dune grass I’m going   unto the unfolding sky    gulls way and the far flung spray   white cap horizon   wind song to fill my sails   on my ship of abalone shells   far far I’m traveling on  natures vagabond  in the purple light of dawn   I’ll trample over the jetty wall   across the sand of golden stars   perfumed by the waves rolling on   salt spray and the white clouds flying   whales way and the seagulls crying    my ship is made of abalone shells   love without end to fill my sails    far far yea I’m traveling on    natures vagabond

crack the traps send the animals back break the latches on all the cages   free the hounds on the hunting grounds return the wolf man to the day       all these things hanging round you don’t have to save them for me I was the captain careless it seems I didn’t mean to sink your ship of dreams untie the ropes let down the chains send the lifeboat back to the bay   break down the dam  return the earth man   let the rivers choose the way  shake off the chains   cut balloons from their strings   keep the anchors at the bottom of the sea   set the timbers drifting with the crates  let the ship worms take it all away

All Star Day 04:21
swinging on a tire swing  swinging through the open door  swinging on a memory  of you and me  swinging by the silver stream  with the grass all green  swinging on a memory of you and me  I turn off the radio under the sun I go with my memory playing soft and low  it was an all star day it was just you and me  we were hiding from the team underneath the mulberry tree   mama I can’t complain you give me everything I wake up everyday and it’s a good day and you’re smiling back at me   lord I can’t complain you give me everything I need  another good day to borrow and a memory to keep  swinging by the river bend with the mandolin wind  your mama didn’t care where we were going and where we been   made your older sister jealous  thought for sure she was the best as you strolled out through the front door in your sky blue summer dress  swinging by the old creek road with the gas gauge low  it didn’t matter though we were where we wanted to go     it was an all star day it was just you and me we were stepping out into a memory
4.
Zipper Ride 04:35
heatwaves and telephone wires riding along with the sun in our eyes  middle of the midway too high  lost it all on the zipper ride Sunday afternoon sinking in a bean bag  cyclops is going after Sinbad   spider got the fly Sinbad got cyclops   l’ll meet you out by the mailbox  if we play it cool we can hitch a ride up to big pools slipping down the water   nothing on us but a big smile    sliding round the truck on a country mile sinking on back making a wish  I see you there in your peppermint dress  oils gonna boil on the dirty road   lights of the midway gonna turn to gold
5.
if you want to hideaway it’s ok  come on and hideaway with me  two fish up in the sky  two birds under the sea  under a wave of glass  making some baby rats   if you want to hideaway it’s alright hideaway with now that might be nice out on a reef in the night with glowing phosphorescent light  hideaway with me hideaway with me anytime   hideaway with me that can’t be wrong under a blanket of fog under the hollow log  catfish down in the moss  if you want to hideaway with me  baby that can’t be wrong  like the man in the moon  sun shining on his nose  hideaway with me underneath the rocks and stone and the driftwood home making some baby rats  underneath the pampas grass hideaway with me now that could be nice

new morning mountain calling come on up to the trees   wash that valley off of you with a blossom breeze               king of the canyon echoing in my mind      echo me on with the sands of time high peak campfire burning manzanita chasing the satellites   angel dancing in the flames when the guitars play new morning sun will cracking on the mountain like an egg   motor will be turning on the tractor cracking up the valley clay

Simmer Down 03:16
I’ll be here I’ll be there I’ll be around when it gets all weird I’m extremely flammable but I’m not blameable  if you got a spark and it gets untamable but I’ll be around when it simmers down   if you gotta cool down don’t freeze me out remember I got the wood you got a place for a fire couldn’t be to hard to find us a lighter remember I got the wood you got the fire couldn’t be to hard to find us a fireplace   it’s  touchy round here it’s all getting weird
8.
Farm Crunch 03:50
walking through the valley new shoots are happy talking to me like a friend  It’s a wonder that we made it this far must be farm crunch again        the world is just a peach hanging on a string  drifting in the cosmic wind  so scoop up the sun with your Big Dipper spoon glowing in your Milky Way bowl  we’re sailing for the summer with the weight of a muddy river  rolling through the dirty town  past the trailer park’s abandoned old boat yard  rolling us all on down    the world is just a peach hanging on a string drifting in the country breeze  there’s a Big Dipper spoon in your Milky Way bowl  scoop up the stars and moon walking through the valley fruit is hanging heavy squash is turning color on the ground   it’s a wonder that we made it out this far  must be farm crunch now   the world is just a peach hanging on a string drifting in the cosmic wind there’s a Big Dipper spoon in your Milky Way bowl so scoop up your lucky charms

even weeds turn to flowers flowers turn to weeds sprinkles turn to showers showers turn to seas  and the seas come back around as the rain falling down on the dry parched and thirsty ground and the seeds they’ll start to sprout  so give off a good vibration on this trail that your traveling on babies turn to teenagers and then they turn to women and men as the old they get to the edge and it all comes back around send out a good vibration on this trail your traveling on I was standing on a rainbow and it turned into a shadow then I lost all hope you know in the goodness of a good world then a little beam of kindness came shining through the darkness I went running for the curtains and I opened up the window

about

"Starting with the idea of a piano based record as the third stage link with the Just a Minute and Anyway records, this was made with the same basic ingredients-which is meet by the sea for a couple days, catch a wave, set up the mics and record while learning the song. This was achieved. The formula being altered a bit with more crew members and some precision mixing chamber operations." - Lee Baggett

Press:

The enigma that is eclectic singer-songwriter Lee Baggett reaches all new emotional depths with his latest album, Echo Me On.

Perpetual Doom is proud and excited to share this dynamic new entry in Baggett’s hyper-distinctive discography. The Philippine-born artist and occasional Little Wings guitarist cut the album’s ten tracks in San Francisco’s Juniper House in 2022 with a full band, a gang of backup singers and a full string section. The surreal poignancy of Baggett’s poetic lyrics carry even more weight than usual here, as his reedy vocals are beautifully supported by this perfectly arranged assortment of sympathetic violins and cellos, honky-tonk piano and swelling mid-60s country choir.

Baggett is joined by Zeb Zaitz on drums and keys, Nick Aives on guitars and keys and Anthony Zaitz on bass guitar. All three also share backup vocal duties with Judy Butterfield, Anya Rome and Bob Thayer. Meanwhile, Cory Gray handled the horns, organ and string arrangements while Amanda Lawrences and Emma Woods played violin/viola and cello, respectively.

From the Dixieland jazz-waltz of “Hideaway with Me” to the stripped down McCartney-meets-Dylan-like ballad that is “Simmer Down,” all of the songs on Echo Me On have pangs of wistfulness, even in the album’s lighter moments. The tranquil vibe of the album’s instrumentation coupled with Baggett’s thin but raw vocal delivery gives these tracks the rich breezy melancholia that you can’t help but enjoy. This is especially true with the record’s bittersweet closing number, “Weeds and Flowers:”

“Babies turn to teenagers, and then they turn to women and men as the old, they get to the edge, and it all comes back around. Send out a good vibration on this trail you’re traveling on”

On this track, as well as throughout the rest of the LP, you get the sense that you’re hearing the words of wisdom of a soul that’s looking back on a long and eventful life. A life that had seen its fair share of other lives enter and exit the world. A life full of stories and adventures. A good life. Get to know this record well, and learn from its road weary observations.
